If you'd like a tool for setting your goals for 2010, you can use this web application:

<a href="http://www.gtdagenda.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.Gtdagenda.com</a>

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A Vision Wall (inspiring images attached to yor goals) is available too.

Good post-

However there are three (3) points that I think are important to your readers re. goal setting.

a) Make sure the goals are SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timley)
b) Make sure you differentiate between both short and long term goals
c) Have the faith and belief in yourself or in "God" that you will accomplish your goals. After all if you believe it-you can achieve it. Conversley, if you don't believe it will happen-more likley than not-it won't.

Best

Good Post-

I agree that everyone should be writing down, and reviwing their goals (SMART) goals, Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relistic and Timely), my only two cents with respect to goal setting:

a) Although it is genuinley agreed to write down SMART goals, I think it's also important t oreview one's goals every 6 months or so to ensure your goals still "mesh" and align with your present situation. Peoples lives are not static, and neither should your goals. As people's ideals, attitudes, and overall goals changes based upon events and circumstacnes affec your lives and others-it is ver important that your goals reflect your current and present situation.

If your goal was to purchase a new house this year 6 months ago, but now either you or your spouse/partner has been laid off due to the present global economic situation, buying the home now should obviously be shelved for later until your personal economic
situation improves.

b) FAITH. So much is emphasized regarding writing down one's goals-but what is really missing in the personal developmet realm is the element of faith, that is a very powerful presence in one's goal setting objectives. Irespective of one's "spiritual" views, FAITH and BELIEF either in yourself or in "God" to help you accomplish your goals is a positive step in acceptance.

As a Christian believer-it is not myintent to "force" my beliefs and spiritual views on ohers-"other than to recognize with an "opend mind" the element of faith and belief as part of your "goal setting arsenal" in your goal setting process. After all-simply writng down your goals does not "guarantee" that your goals will be achieved-there is an element of faith and belief that you must posess in order for your goals to be accomplised.

If you believe it-you can achieve it-conversley, if you don't believe it will happen-more than likely it won't.

Best-

The only thing I would add additionally is to emphasize SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) Yes..I agree that having a SMART goal setting plan is key but it goes beyond just penning down ones goals. You have to BELIEVE IT in order to ACHIEVE IT.
You also need the element of FAITH, and Belief that you will actually set out to achieve your goals.....because if you don't believe you will..guess what-you won't...

Great article-

I would agree that simply writing down your goals in itself is not enough. Anyway can write down their goals-real challenge is acting upon the goals you've written down. From my 10 years plus experience in professional goal setting and strategic planning I have observed that the majority of my clients do not know what their goals are and they alos do not believe hey will accomplish them anyway.

Because of this I developed the ICPRA model for personal-goal-setting (Idealize, Conceptualize, Prioritize, Realize and Actualize). This process I believe helps people undrstand the "theory" behind goal-setting so they are more able to believe in themselves to actually achieve their goals they have set out to accomplish.

Much Success-
